Laser Hair Removal Facts
Laser hair removal is a method of removing unwanted hair through a process called Selective Photo-Thermolysis.
The laser emits a very specific beam of light, targeting melanin, which is the pigment in our hair. The beam is absorbed by the dark pigment in the hair and hair follicle and converted to heat. This heat destroys the hair and associated growth structures.
Laser hair removal can work very effectively for almost everyone. The best candidates are fair skinned people (who have not recently tanned), with dark hair. However, all skin types can be treated. What this means for people with darker skin types, is that more treatments may be required to receive optimal results. Naturally blond, gray, and red hairs often respond best to alternate forms of hair removal-namely electrolysis. Make an appointment for a complimentary consultation and we will evaluate your skin and hair type.
Yes. Thousands of people have undergone laser hair removal with very low incidence of complications. Used properly by trained professionals, it is extremely safe. Our laser is even safer than most because of the active cooling system, which protects the skin during treatment. Our laser specialists are certified through the State of Colorado. We’ve treated clients from Greeley, Ft. Collins, Loveland, Denver, Colorado Springs, and Cheyenne, Wyoming.
Our hair grows in three different phases. Anagen, Catagen, and Telogen. For the laser treatment to be effective the hair must be in the anagen stage at the time of the treatment, which is the active growth phase. The treatments are usually done at four-to-six-week intervals.
This is highly variable and often unpredictable; I suggest you plan on six to twelve treatments. An average of eight to ten. Those people with sub-optimal skin or hair types may require more.
Approximately 80% to 90% of people get very good long-term results. Approximately 10% to 20% of people experience a prolonged delay of regrowth lasting from three to six months. For these people, continued laser hair removal at periodic intervals may be a very good option. Our treatment programs are designed so the follow-ups, if needed, are available at an affordable and reduced cost.
The laser we use in our clinic, located in Greeley, Colorado, is gentler than most because of the unique system of skin cooling. Each person is individually evaluated, and our laser settings will be tailored to you. Consequently, one person may feel more discomfort than another. Most people especially those that have been using other methods, such as waxing, or electrolysis, have no discomfort at all. During your complimentary consultation, we may do some skin testing. This should alleviate any concerns you may have. If necessary, a topical anesthetic can be applied.
Lasers have far fewer side effects than other systems available for the removal of unwanted hair, including IPL (Intense Pulsed Light), electrolysis and even waxing. Lasers have a very specific wavelength of light. Our system is a long-pulsed alexandrite 755nm.This means it falls very close to infrared in the color spectrum, absorbing black and brown melanin without damaging the surrounding tissue. If your hair is darker than your skin, you should receive very good results, with minimal side effects. A few people experience temporary pigment changes after laser treatments (2-10%). We can minimize these temporary changes by not treating “tanned skin”. A mild sunburn effect does sometimes occur, but usually subsides within a few hours following the treatment. There is no recovery time; normal activities can be resumed immediately.
Almost anywhere on the body can be treated. Common areas that women like to have treated are the underarms, bikini, face, legs, and arms. Common areas that men like to have treated are the back, shoulders, chest, abdomen, front and back of the neck. Areas such as ears, toes, fingers, sometimes get overlooked, but can be effectively treated.
There is no charge for a consultation-just call for an appointment. However, a consultation is necessary to determine an exact cost. The cost is based upon the size and complexity of the area to be treated. Payment is required at the time of service. We accept Cash, Checks, Visa, MasterCard, Discover, and Care Credit.
